"Can Art" debuts to support Feeding South Dakota

Posted: Updated:

The American Institute of Graphic Arts debuted the "Can Art" event on Saturday, an artistic food drive exhibit.

4 teams used non-perishable food items to build works of art that are on display in the lobby of the Washington Pavilion.

One team built a weiner dog named Henry with over 500 cans of baked beans.

Organizers say this is a good, creative way to raise awareness for hunger.

"The food shelves get full for the holidays. After the holidays, there's a need for food to feed families in need during this time of year. Wanted to do it in a fun way that supports local design communities and people like us," Valerie Carlson said.

The art will remain on display at the Pavilion through February 24th.

Everyone is invited to stop and vote for a "People's Chioce" winner, and all donations will be delivered to Feeding South Dakota.
