People who attended an agricultural seminar at the Sioux Falls Convention Center learned more about the new farm bill and trade developments.
The GrowingOn 2013 Event was held at the Sioux Falls Convention Center Tuesday morning.
Jim Wiesemeyer of Informa Economics in Washington, D.C. was one of the featured speakers at the seminar Tuesday. Wiesemeyer discussed agricultural policy, development of a new farm bill and trade developments. Since, 1978 he has reported on government, policy and trade. Before joining Informa Economics, he was the Washington editor and bureau chief for ProFarmer Inc. He continues to write a "Washington Today" column.
Wiesemeyer said farmers need to watch out for upcoming keys issues. He said farmers should keep an eye on the latest Farm Bill that will be proposed. He also discussed that there could increases on taxes on land.
In general, Wiesmeyer told farmers they should be ready for any changes in farming—whether it comes from environmental causes or from legislation.
