In a White House ceremony today, 18 Americans received the nation's highest honor for public safety officials. The award is called the Medal of Valor.
Vice-President Joe Biden presented the medals to a group of public servants who risked their lives to save others. "There are those among you and they're sitting with us today and in our thoughts today who are exceptional within the exceptional. That's why we're here today, to honor those rare few, who looked certain danger in the face, faced it with incredible valor and all the while saying, it's my duty."
The Medal of Valor was created in 2001 to honor the commitment public officers make every day in risking their lives to protect Americans.
