Aberdeen is one area that has seen its fair share of snow this winter.
After last year's relatively dry winter, the Hub-City has been hit quite hard a few times, with a wintry mix.
"It changes from year to year and how much snow comes our way," Laura Edwards a Climate Control Specialist with South Dakota State University says. "This winter we just happen to see a lot more."
While, the southern portion of South Dakota is battling a drought, Aberdeen is approaching their average moisture rate.
"We don't see many issues with a drought up here," Edwards said. "Obviously we will know more when the snow melts, and we can put our hands on an official totals."
Edwards says for roughly every ten inches of snow on the ground it equates to about one inch of liquid.
"Once we see that soil thaw out, we can expect all that moisture to get sucked right in."
The Northeastern portion of South Dakota is not expected to see large amounts of moisture for this weekend's system, but Aberdeen can expect to see a winter storm reaching the area as early as next week.
