The snow started falling in Vermillion right around 3 o'clock.. so heavily it obscured a clear with of the Dakota Dome. Visibilities dropped as the wind kicked in.
As the snow begins to accumulate, people were spending much of today getting ready for it.
Greg Bates is one of many who stopped by the Ace Hardware in Vermillion.
He picked up a new shovel and plenty of ice melt to place around his house...he said he hasn't really had to use any of it at all this year. Ace Hardware has seen an increase in sales ahead of this snow storm, though people weren't sure just how much they'd get down here in Vermillion.
Bates tells us we need the snow here for the sake of winter and farmers across the region.
Regardless, he tells us he'll be ready for whatever Mother Nature brings his way. "Got a shovel...hopefully I don't have to use it....this year it's been colder a little more snow. not different though I don't thin its a dull winter, that's all it is."
Surely not dull today in Vermillion. The Street Department will have about six crews on hand through the night to keep a close eye on this storm. As soon as they get 2 inches on the ground, they'll start emergency routes.
