Pittman's Basketball Journey

Posted: Updated:

Sioux Falls-  What a season it's been for Skyforce center Dexter Pittman.  Pittman has been sent down to the Force from the Miami Heat four times this season.

Today the Heat traded Pittman to the Memphis Grizzlies.

We talked with Pittman on what his hectic life is like today, in which was probably his final practice with the Skyforce.

Dexter Pittman is one of the best players in the D-League when he's here.   Then he's gone back to join the Heat, to sit on the bench.  He's only appeared in four games with Miami this season, but the weather is nice.

"It's different coming from Miami to the weather up here. But the people are always nice here than when you get to Miami." says Pittman

"It's like a 360 for him.  The palm trees of Miami to South Dakota and the chill." says Force teammate Demitrius Nichols.

Pittman doesn't look at the traveling back and forth as a burden, but as an opportunity.

"As long as I'm playing the game that I love, it is what it is, I'm going to make the most of it." says Pittman.

"He's handled it well.  You know he's been back and forth, injured and non-injured.  I think he's an NBA center, but he's here, and we don't know if he'll be here for our game tomorrow." says head coach Joel Abelson.

And for three seasons,  Pittman has been able to practice with the best player in the world, Lebron James, who's treated the 24 year old like a little brother.

"When you are around greatness, you have to soak it in and learn from him.  When you see him work hard, it makes you work hard." says Pittman.

Pittman has also learned from another Heat teammate, South Dakota native and NBA veteran Mike Miller.

"I've learned a lot from Mike for the way he carries himself off the basketball court.  How he's shaped his image, and he has his foundation and everything."  says Pittman.
