Expect a snowy, slick morning commute in Sioux Falls

Posted: Updated:

A Snow Alert was issued for the City of Sioux Falls at 5:30am.  They will continue to plow emergency routes and then will move into Zone 3 around 7am.

Plowing of Zone 2 on east/west streets begins Friday night at 8:00. Plowing of Zone 2 on north/south streets begins at 8:00 Saturday morning.

Plowing of Zone 1 (downtown) is Sunday at 1:00 a.m.

If you are parked on a street that is scheduled for plowing you could be subject to a ticket and a tow.

Crews with the Sioux Falls Street Department have been working through the night to keep emergency routes as clear as possible for the morning commute.

Snow has been falling in Sioux Falls fairly steadily through the early morning hours on Friday. Expect your residential street to have several inches on it in the morning. Also if you park outside you'll want some extra time to brush off your car which is likely fairly covered in light snow.

The Sioux Falls Street Department had a crew of about 100 people come in to start a shift at Midnight. They have been working to clear emergency routes and will continue to do so until the snow stops.

Many roads in the area are very slick, including the interstate in Sioux Falls. Give yourself some extra time so you can slow down during your morning commute. We've been talking with the Street Department through the night and we will continue to bring you the very latest information from them.
