Snowfall in Sioux Falls provides continuing test for snow gates

Posted: Updated:

Sioux Falls is one of the many South Dakota cities digging out today.

Crews have been hard at work since Thursday morning, preparing for - and now cleaning up after this winter storm.

The more than six inches of snow was enough to issue a city wide snow alert......which means every street in the city of Sioux Falls will be plowed.

There's still a little more to shovel, but these snow gates prevent the wall of snow left by normal plows and leave driveways open....

The gates are still in the testing phase in Sioux Falls, but yesterday's dry snow is already providing some new data.

The lighter snow means a quicker job for the snow plows equipped with snow gates.....and with the help of Sioux Falls residents, this city-wide street cleaning will go even faster.

Remember any cars left out on the streets during a snow alert will be subject to ticket or towing, so make sure you get your car off the streets as soon as you're home tonight.

Snow plows have been out today on all emergency routes and in Zone Three, which covers the outer areas of Sioux Falls.

Removal in Zone Two which covers more of the central streets will begin tonight at eight and continue into tomorrow morning.
