Deadwood gambling numbers continue to be strong

Posted: Updated:

DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) - Gamblers are continuing to flock to Deadwood.

The western South Dakota casino hot spot is coming off its best year on record and officials say the pace is continuing in 2013.

The $7.8 million in gambling revenues collected last month is the highest figure for January in four years.

Deadwood Gaming Association President Tom Nelson says table games have become more popular because of the increase in bet limits that went into effect last summer.

Table game revenue rose more than 43 percent from January 2012. Slot machine income was up 1.5 percent from the same month a year ago.

Total revenue for 2012 was $107.4 million, exceeding 2011's $100.9 million and 2010's $106.2 million
