Yankton commissioners say study needed on housing

Posted: Updated:

YANKTON, S.D. (AP) - City commissioners in Yankton want to study what they believe is a housing shortage.

The commission on Monday approved a motion to create a committee to explore a housing survey and how to pay for it.

Commissioner David Knoff says he's been told the city is lacking in apartments and houses in the $125,000 to $175,000 range, yet nobody is building.

Knoff says it may be that infrastructure costs are too high.

The city of Mitchell recently completed a housing study for a cost of about $28,000.
