Tea man arrested for meth charges after apartment fire

Posted: Updated:

One person was arrested in connection with a suspected meth lab found during a fire at an apartment in Tea.

Investigators with the Division of Criminal Investigation, Drug Task Force, Tea Police Department, and the Tea Fire Department were on the scene of a fire at 615 E Brian Street in Tea. Crews arrived around 12:30 Tuesday morning. When crews arrived they found a small fire burning in an apartment that had been fairly well contained by a sprinkler system prior to their arrival.

However, when crews were inside the apartment they found chemicals consistent with a drug lab.

Jesse Rains, 32, of Tea was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, manufacturing a controlled substance and intent to distribute a controlled substance. He is also facing charges for fugitive of justice stemming from incidents in Iowa.

Rains is scheduled to appear in court on April 10 for his drug charges. His extradition in connection to the Iowa charges is scheduled for March 5.
