Does It Work? We test the GyroBowl

GyroBowl is supposed to spin and stuff stays in. GyroBowl is supposed to spin and stuff stays in.

Every Wednesday in February Nancy Naeve Brown has been trying to answer the question so many of us ask, do those "As Seen on TV products work?

This time she is testing the GyroBowl. They claim its spill proof design will insure no more messes, but does this rotating bowl work at keeping everything in the bowl? Nancy enlists the help of an adorable little expert.

The GyroBowl has a funny name and comes with big promises. It's supposed to be kid proof and spill proof. Here's part of the commercial.

"Gyro Bowl the kid-proof, spill-proof bowl! The secret is the inner bowl that rotates 360 degrees and stays open side up no matter what so food may spin and spin but won't spill. Keeps snacks inside no spills, no mess. Virtually indestructible. Great for kids on the go! "

If I really want to put this to the test, I should can expert so I brought in 2 year old Desmond Walter. I asked Dez to dump over the bowl and instead he ate the Honey Nut Cheerios in the bowl. I told him he's no dummy. Why would he want to dump something when he can eat it?  I put something not as sweet in the GyroBowl and sure enough he was happy to turn it over and shake it a few times. And out came the rice crackers. He repeated it several times. His mom Mara Walter says they have one at home and he is pretty good at figuring out how to dump stuff out or his hand got stuck in the side of the bowl.

What they don't tell you in the commercial is what a toddler will do the minute they have a bowl. They shake it back and forth and everything goes flying out of it. This would work for children that are a little older. I found the GyroBowl at Nyberg's Ace for $14.
It's doesn't work to keep the food in the bowl with young kids who like to tip stuff upside down or shake things to smithereens.
