Big changes are just around the corner for the Sioux Falls grocery business. Fareway Food Stores will soon open a new location along 41st Street near the Western Mall.
According to an article on the store's web site, the Sioux Falls location will be its first in South Dakota, more than 34,000 square feet, next to the existing Hobby Lobby along 41st Street.
The sign on the outside of the store is already visible for people passing by.
Friday, we talked with Lawrence & Schiller Senior VP for Operations and Multimedia Mark Glissendorf who says more competing large grocers is exciting.
It's not only good for a growing Sioux Falls but good for consumers.
From location convenient along one of the state's busiest roads to food prices from existing grocery stores like Hy-Vee and Sunshine Foods, Glissendorf says Fareway will have a great deal of good competition.
"It will undoubtedly force everyone in the market to pay close attention to what they're charging. Consumers will compare costs. It gives us a variety of options," Mark Glissendorf said.
The exact date of its grand opening has not been made public. What we do know, according to the store's web site, is that the hope is to open 'early', this year.
