Investigation of Huron burglaries leads to drug bust

Posted: Updated:

Four people have been arrested in Huron after a burglary investigation turned in to drug bust.

It all started around February 14. Beadle County Sheriff Doug Solem says there were numerous reports of houses being entered. Solem says seven houses were actually burglarized.

Solem says the suspects stole guns, safes, jewelry, cash, meat from freezers, deer heads and cameras. According to the police reports, two individuals were knocking on doors asking if the home owner had seen their lost dog. Solem says, if no one was home the suspects would break in.

The sheriff's department contacted pawn shops in the Sioux Falls area. Those calls led them to issue a search warrant on Friday March 1 at a home at 1400 21St Street Southwest in Huron. Huron Police, Beadle County Sheriff's Office and Sanborn County Sheriff's Office were involved in the warrant.

During the execution of the warrant, authorities recovered several items that were stolen from homes. Marcus Erickson, 29, and Cody Weed, 19, were arrested for possession of stolen property and burglary. They are being held in the Beadle County jail on $20,000 cash bond.

During the search, authorities noticed 10 to 12 stolen guns were still unaccounted for. That's when police put out another search warrant for 1008 Nebraska Avenue SW in Huron. That arrest warrant was issued on March 4.

During the execution of the warrant, police found 12 guns, plus other stolen property. Police also found six grams of meth, scales, baggies an unknown amount of marijuana and other drug paraphernalia.

Shoua Lee, 32, was arrested for possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance, keeping a place for sale or use of a controlled substance. Lee's wife Csee Vang, 21, was charged for possession of a controlled substance and keeping a place for sale or use of a controlled substance.

Shoua is being held on $50,000 cash bond and Vang is being held on $25,000 cash bond.
