Suspect arrested in jewelry theft in Aberdeen

Posted: Updated:

Florida police have arrested a man suspected of stealing a bracelet from Riddle's Jewelry in Aberdeen.

Maykel Ibanez Correoso made an initial appearance in Florida on a petty theft charge. He waived extradition to South Dakota. Florida will keep Ibanez Correoso until a final disposition has been reached and his sentence is finished in Florida.

Ibanez Correoso is accused of stealing a bracelet worth more than $30,000 from Riddle's Jewelry. Police say a man walked into a Riddle's Jewelry store in the Aberdeen mall last Nov. 1 and asked an employee to show him the bracelet. He snatched the bracelet and fled.

Deputy Brown County State's Attorney Chris White says Ibanez Correoso was arrested in Florida Tuesday.

According to the police report, Ibanez Correoso was caught while stealing bathing suits and shoes from a JC Penney's at the mall in Naples, Florida. Police say he stole approximately $125 worth of property from JC Penney's. A further search alleges Ibanez Correoso stole property from Macy's and American Eagle. Police say the property returned to Macy's amounted to $1,144.39.

After arresting Ibanez Correoso officers discovered he was wanted in South Dakota for larceny.

Deputy Brown County State's Attorney Chris White says Ibanez Correoso is scheduled to appear in Florida court on March 25. White says if Ibanez Correoso wouldn't have waived extradition then South Dakota's governor would have had to ask the Florida governor to extradite the suspect.
