Stampede Hockey Club's "$100K Hat Trick" to support Scheels IcePlex

Posted: Updated:

The Ice Sports Association in Sioux Falls has announced a "hat trick" plan to raise funds for the construction of the Scheels IcePlex project.

The Scheels IcePlex is set to be constructed at the Sanford Sports Complex, just west of the regional airport north of Sioux Falls. Sanford Health donated 11 acres to construct the facility. Groundbreaking for the Scheels IcePlex is slated for late 2013 and it is expected to be completed in the fall of 2014.

On Wednesday, the Ice Sports Association held a press conference to announce its "$100k Hat Trick" to support construction of the new facility. The overall impact is to contribute three new $100,000 contributions to the IcePlex project in three stages.

The initial commitment features a $100,000 charitable donation to the ISA Chamber Community Appeals Campaign from the Stampede ownership group, Sioux Falls Sports, LLC.

The second stage of the Hat Trick challenges local businesses and individuals to support the ISA's campaign to raise a second goal of $100,000.

The third and final goal of the Hat Trick is the Stampede will contribute an additional $100,000 gift that will match the business community's $100,000 to pledges dollar-for-dollar.

"Our hockey club is pleased to support the ISA's vision for a new youth-based, multi-sheet ice facility for Sioux Falls," Tom Garrity, President/CEO of Sioux Falls Sports, LLC, said in a news release. "There is nothing more important to the future of our team and to the future of ice sports in our community that the development of our young skaters."

The gift is a significant chunk of ISA's multi-faceted plan to raise $7.7 million. ISA plans to raise most of those funds through private sources, which have already donated $5 million. The ISA Chamber drive has a goal of raising an additional $1.54 million for the project.

"We are confident we will meet this goal, thanks to the exceptional generosity of our local business community and countless generous individuals and volunteers," Sue Salter, Executive Director of the ISA, said in a news release. "Today's pledge and challenge from the Stampede will continue to fuel our campaign and inspire new gifts, and we are extremely grateful."
