Whether to legalize gay marriage is a hot topic in this session of the Minnesota Legislature. And a new poll finds the majority of Minnesotans questioned are against it.
The poll - conducted by the Star Tribune - shows 53% say the state statute banning same-sex unions should stand.
38% say legislators should overturn the law this year and 9% are undecided.
Younger Minnesotans are more likely to support legalizing same-gender unions.
More than half of respondents age 18-to-34 say the law should change.
The chairman of the Minnesota College Republicans is the latest from his party to support legalizing gay marriage in the state. So far only one Republican lawmaker openly supports the bill.
