Tonight's "Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week" is Kenneth Shaffner from Chester Area School.
Kenneth has a perfect 4.0 grade point average and his teachers say he is not only smart....he is helpful and humble.
Ask Kenneth Shaffner about the classes he is taking this semester, and you will get quite an answer from the Chester Area senior. "Anatomy, Physics, Calculus, Spanish 4..." And make sure to throw in British Literature and Government for good measure.
And ask him what his favorite classes are.....and you will get this answer. "I'd really like to go into civil engineering so calculus and physics are probably my biggest two."
But it's not just what Kenneth does in the classroom that earns him "Scholar of the Week" honors. It is how he does it.
Kenneth is a special student for a couple of reasons.
This is what Spanish teacher Velda Schneider told us. "He's a very articulate student. A very compassionate student. Very organized. I think the one thing about Kenneth I just find interesting ....I'll give an assignment to do and Kenneth will take it to the next level."
Kenneth is preparing to take his life and his academic career to the next level and he has a couple of options...both of them very good. "I actually applied for an Army ROTC scholarship and I received one from South Dakota School of Mines and from SDSU. So this Fall I am going to have to make a decision on one of those two."
And for being named our Scholar of the Week, Kenneth will receive a $100 scholarship from Sioux Valley Energy, which is a local Touchstone Energy cooperative.
