Storm system will bring rain, ice and snow to northeast, central South Dakota

Posted: Updated:

There's been a break in the rain in the Sioux Falls area this afternoon but folks from Winner to Huron to Aberdeen and Watertown are getting snow. It's moderate to heavy at times and that snow is moving eastward.

Some areas could pick up a quick 2-5" before everything pushes off to the east. There are going to be two waves of snow that come through. The first one is moving through our area now. The second band will develop further to the south east and could bring several inches of snow to extreme southeast South Dakota, northeast Nebraska and northwest Iowa. Sioux Falls will be right on the edge and is on track to get 2 to 4".

After this storm passes, colder and blustery conditions will set in for Sunday. As we head into next week however, a warming trend will begin with some areas making it into the 50s toward the latter part of the week.
