Sioux Falls man arrested for recklessly shooting handgun because he was mad

Posted: Updated:

A Sioux Falls man was arrested for recklessly firing a handgun into the air Sunday afternoon.

Albert Kikes, 25, says he was angry that his wife was not home, so he shot his gun into the air.

Police say the incidents happened between 4:30-4:45. People in the area of 3300 block of West 51st Street reported several gunshots, but they were not able to tell police how many shots they heard.

An officer in the area saw Kikes without a shirt on walking down the road. The officer approached Kikes and found he had a gun holster without a gun inside it. Through the investigation, police found Kikes was their suspect for the gunshots.

Police went to Kikes' apartment, where a 3-year-old and 3-month-old were also staying with him, and found five bullet casings on the patio. Police say Kikes walked out of his apartment and onto the patio, where he fired five shots into the air from his .45-caliber handgun.

Kikes is charged with five counts of reckless discharge of a firearm and one count of possession of a firearm while intoxicated. Sioux Falls Police did not have information on the whereabouts of the children after Kikes was arrested.
