When a new neighbor moves in next door, many wonder 'what will they be like?'.
So, what if the new neighbor is one of the world's largest retailers?
Monday, Walmart announced two new Supercenters coming to Sioux Falls.
If all goes according to plan, it would be a first for two Supercenters to be under construction in one city at the same time.
KSFY News spoke with neighbors at one of the proposed locations, near 85th and Minnesota.
Some who didn't want to go on camera, but many actually said they weren't bothered by the news of Walmart setting up shop in the area.
If there's no opposition they will have a Supercenter like this one on the east by fall of 2014.
Cindy Egan has lived near 85th and Minnesota for about six years. She's seen the community grow and doesn't mind having Walmart as a new neighbor.
"I'm pretty neutral. It's nice not to have to run over... I go to the east side because it's slower, but it would be off Minnesota so I don't think it would affect our direct neighborhood as much," Egan said.
A few other neighbors aren't as happy about the news. In fact Casey Christensen would prefer if another retailer were moving into the neighborhood.
"I'm not real excited about it. I'm more of a target person. Not excited about all the traffic and all that will bring," Christensen said.
Cindy thinks some neighbors might want to fight back and stop the project from going forward.
"I think they could. We have a lot of young kids that run around our area. That's going to be a lot of construction. There could be some neighbors highly opposed to it," Christensen said.
Darrin Smith, Sioux Falls Director of Community Development, expects neighbors to have concerns about the new construction.
"As a city, we welcome that, that's part of the process. I think Walmart and others in the private sector, they welcome that because it gives a chance to provide answers. It gives a chance to explain what they're doing and what it means for the region," Smith said.
David Larson currently has a view of the proposed site. He has mixed feelings about it.
"Given a choice, we'd rather have a residential neighborhood over there but commercial reality is all around us so we trust the city will plan accordingly. We can live without it," Larson said.
If you live near any of the two proposed sites for the Walmart Supercenters.
Walmart will host an open house for you to ask questions and give your opinion.
For residents who want to learn more about the proposed projects, Walmart will host an open house on Thursday, March 21 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sioux Falls Convention center, 1101 N. West Avenue, Sioux Falls.
