The cover of this week's Sioux Falls Business Journal Report features corporate art and the deliberative decisions made in selecting office paintings.
Jodi Schwan, with the Sioux Falls Business Leader, says businesses are putting more time and energy into selecting their art.
"Art used to be an after thought. They'd build the office building or they'd do the remodel, and then they'd say ‘oh yeah, maybe we should put something on those walls,' and that has really changed," Schwan said.
Schwan says businesses are thinking more about corporate art because it can change the way clients do business. She says hospitals are taking it to a whole new level—specifically as a tool to help heal patients.
Schwan also discussed two new Walmarts proposed on the opposite sides of Sioux Falls. Schwan says Walmart could draw other business because they are in growing residential areas.
"In addition to giving all of those residents another retail option, I think we're going to start to see some more businesses cluster around Walmart," Schwan said. "All that property around the Walmart, that's probably going to be some of the most sought-after retail property in the city here in short order."
