Today's in-state rivalry was divisive for many South Dakotans - pitting friends, coworkers, and families against each other - at least for today.
The state was split today with die hard fans and alumni supporting their South Dakota alma maters......but we caught up with one family who gave up generations of cheering on South Dakota State to support a granddaughter who strayed from the family's tradition.
"We've been coming 5 years to the Summit League Tournament, this has been a dream of ours for a long time that one of our grand kids would play in this championship game." But the Yackleys never imagined it would mean cheering for USD. "I've been a Jackrabbit fan for a long long time."
Bob and his wife, Elaine, graduated from SDSU in the 60s and the rest of their family followed suit. "Two of my sons graduated from there and we have a grandson, Alexis's brother that plays baseball at South Dakota State."
"No we're all of us are South Dakota State grads and because Alexis made it here, we're going red today and supporting the Coyotes and Alexis."
Sporting red isn't something the Yackley's take lightly... but family comes first. "I made this promise to Alexis before the tournament started and here we are."
Whatever they did...it seemed to work pretty well for Alexis.
