Fire danger increasing in western South Dakota

Posted: Updated:

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Warm temperatures and low humidity are increasing the fire danger in western South Dakota.

The Rapid City Journal reports that burn bans are either in place or being implemented in several counties. The National Weather Service also is issuing fire weather reports nearly a week ahead of schedule.

Meteorologist Gregg Richards says temperatures in some areas could climb into the 70s on Thursday. Rapid City Fire Department spokesman Brent Long is urging residents to be careful while they enjoy the warm weather.

Richards says the best shot at measurable precipitation is at least 10 days away.
