A Wagner woman could spend up to 22 years in prison for a number of charges, including failure to report a toddler's death.
29-year-old Laurie Cournoyer was sentenced Thursday in a Lake Andes courtroom.
A judge sentenced her to 5 years for failure to notify. He also handed down two other sentences; 10 years for drug possession charges and another 10 years for unauthorized possession of drugs. However 8 years of that final sentence were suspended for time served.
Cournoyer and her husband, Taylor, were supposed to be caring for 2-year-old RieLee Lovell and five other children last July. Lovell was found strangled to death in the couple's Wagner home. During Thursday's sentencing, Cournoyer said she was sorry for not knowing about the girl's death because she was high on meth.
