UPDATE: Two dead in crash near Grand Falls Casino Resort

Posted: Updated:

An Iowa State Trooper says two people are dead following an accident outside of Grand Falls Casino Resort.

The accident happened just before 5:30, Thursday night.  Witness say a car pulled out of the entrance to the casino and was struck by a tractor trailer.

Lyon County Sheriff's Office received several 911 calls of a semi vs. car accident at the entrance to the Grand Falls Casino. Responding to the call were Larchwood Emergency Medical Service, Larchwood Fire Department, Lyon County Sheriff's Office Deputies, Iowa State Patrol, and Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement.

A 2007 Peterbilt semi tractor and trailer was northbound on Iowa Highway 9 when a 2000 GMC Yukon, which was southbound and turning into the Grand Falls Casino, drove across the front of the semi. The semi was unable to stop and struck the Yukon. Both vehicles ended up in the east ditch.

The driver of the Yukon, Charles J. Rice, and his passenger, Kristin Ann Loudermilk (both of Sioux Falls, SD), were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi, Randy L. Gergen of Granville, Iowa, was not hurt.
