Pierre Governors honor Conrad Adam at title game

Posted: Updated:

The Pierre Governors won their first state championship title in 31 years, Saturday night.

While it was always the memory of a lifetime to win a state title, this one maybe felt a little more special for the team.

Cheering them along on the bench was Conrad Adam, a junior at Pierre High School, who was a star on the basketball team before he was diagnosed with Oseteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.

Adam was on the sideline the entire time cheering on his teammates, Saturday. His coach even did something extra special for him before the game.

"We put him in a uniform tonight. We wanted him to make sure he felt like he was part of the team. He pushed us all year. Motivated us like you wouldn't believe all year long," Terry Becker said.

"Coach handed me the jersey after shoot around this morning. I don't know, it felt right, felt like little be more normal suiting up tonight. Had to be the night," Conrad Adam said.

The Governors defeated Brandon Valley 50-39, the final.
