Rapid City officials say construction is off to a fast start in 2013.
The city issued $54 million in building permits in the first two months, which is about a quarter of last year's nearly $208 million total.
Nearly $32 million in permits were approved in February, including a 216-unit apartment complex, a new hotel and a pipe manufacturing facility.
Brett Limbaugh, the city's community planning director says that the numbers are even more impressive when considering that the building season hasn't really started yet.
