Bond and a new hearing are set for a man accused of running his car into the garage of Sioux Falls home while he was drunk.
Tuesday at 12:09 am, a person reported an intoxicated driver in the area of 10th Street and I-229. The witness told police that the driver of a '89 Chevy Silverado was driving without headlights and it jumped the median.
When officers arrived to the area they saw the suspected pickup heading east on 10th Street. Officers said the pickup then jumped the median and pulled into the Golden Nugget Casino lot. Police suspect jumped the median to leave the lot and proceeded west on 10th Street.
The suspect started driving south on Lowell Avenue where officers activated their lights and siren to stop the truck. The suspect kept driving, turning east on 12th Street and south on Cleveland Avenue. Around 13th Street and Cleveland Avenue police called off the pursuit because the suspect wouldn't stop.
Before the pursuit was terminated officers noted they were traveling from 55 to 60 miles per hour. The pursuing officer turned off the siren and flashing lights in hopes the suspect would decrease his speed. The patrol car kept going in the same direction until they came upon the crash at 3205 East 18th Street.
The pickup hit a 2000 Toyota Camry in the driveway causing $5,000 worth of damage and a 2000 Ford Ranger received $2,000 worth in damage. Police say estimated $5,000 damage was done to the garage.
At the scene the suspect was stuck inside of his vehicle so he tried to back up to get away but was unsuccessful. Officers had to get him out through his window.
KSFY News spoke with the homeowners Sarah and Dale Diedrich. They moved into the home in October and were recently married in November. They are both hearing impaired and they told us they did not hear the crash. The Diedrich's said they were actually woken up by all of the flashing lights.
The Diedrichs said they were shocked when they stepped outside and saw all of the damage to their garage and their two cars. They think at least one of those cars may be totaled. They said there is a lot of damage to the garage but the house itself is okay so they will be staying there tonight.
The couple said they are just thankful no one was hurt.
