Now an update on a story we've been following since Monday.
Travis Thorngren signed himself out of the minimum security unit at the South Dakota State Penitentiary, supposedly to work on a dog obedience program with the Humane Society, and never returned.
While the state has been calling him a "walkaway inmate," we learned today that he is, in fact, confined to a wheelchair.
Michael Winder with the Department of Corrections tells us all inmates are considered "walkaways" when they leave a minimum security facility.
When an inmate breaks out of a medium or maximum security facility it is called an escape.
