Posted: Updated:

Emergency crews are at the scene of a barn fire in rural Colton Friday morning.

At approximately 6:30 am, the fire was reported at 46826 245th Street near Colton. Crews at the scene tell KSFY News a barn caught fire but no people or animals were hurt in the blaze. People living at the home nearby say the hog barn had been vacant for about a year.

KSFY Photojournalist David Koehn reports heavy smoke was billowing from the scene of the fire. Koehn says the barn appears to be burnt to the ground.

Four fire trucks responded to the scene from Chester, Colton and Dell Rapids.

Another structure near the barn fire appeared to have taken on some damage from the fire. Also, a nearby house did no suffer any damage from the blaze.

Sgt. Mike Walsh, Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office, says there is no evidence indicating a cause of the fire was suspicious.
