It started an invitation. Dear South Dakotans, can you lose a combined 2,013 pesky pounds?
"It was a twelve-week program where we incentivized them for not only participation but by being accountable to us each week," said Be Well South Dakota's Director of Health and Wellness Trisha Dohn.
Each week Marta Huls would receive an email from the Be Well South Dakota folks asking her to weigh in.
"I didn't want to let Trisha down, so I made sure I kept going," said Huls. "Sometimes it's hard to motivate yourself."
That's why the extra weekly tips from the free Be Well program like watching portion control, having healthy snacks with you, and exercising were so useful to Huls.
"I think it's important to have a healthy lifestyle. You have to make good choices with what you eat, and exercise or do an activity at least one hour a day."
With more than 400 participants buying in, Be Well South Dakota's 2013 pound pledge was a huge success.
"South Dakota has lost over a ton of weight," said Dohn.
Now, that's something to celebrate.
Be Well South Dakota is starting a new program on April 8th. For more information go to http://bewellsouthdakota.com/.
