Scouts bring Habitat houses to life with birdhouses

Posted: Updated:

All it took was a little glue, nails, and paint and these boy scouts were ready to go.

Sioux Falls Troop 361 teamed up with habitat for humanity to create birdhouses.

Every year scouts create these works of art for families moving into their new homes built by habitat volunteers.

the scouts completed about a dozen for each new home this year, wanting them to have a touch of the outdoors close to the windows.

"Troop 361 has had a history with Habitat. We've done Brush With Kindness so they asked us back. It was a good opportunity with good people," Casey Koustaal said.

The wood they're using came from Black Hills Pine. Pine Beetles had infested the wood out there and rather than burning it the troops were able to obtain scraps of wood through donations to create the houses today.
