Mom in Sioux Falls fatal fire back in custody after skipping hearing

Posted: Updated:

The Sioux Falls mother whose three children died in a December house fire is in custody, after she was wanted for skipping her arraignment hearing.

Rhiannon White, 34, was wanted for two counts of possession of drugs after police found traces of meth and ecstasy in her system after the fatal fire on December 22. In March, White was charged with six counts of abuse or neglect of a minor.

White was scheduled to appear in court last Thursday, but she never arrived. White's attorney said she had not made contact with her client since March 13.

Minnehaha County State's Attorney Tom Hensley said a bondsman took White into county jail over the weekend of March 23. Court documents show when White was booked in jail she had .4 grams of marijuana in her possession, which caused her bond to be revoked. White was then lodged for Possession of Marijuana 2 oz. or Less.

Hensley said the bondsman believed White was a flight risk and was still using methamphetamines.

Hensley said he believed based on her intake photo from that weekend it appeared White has not been taking care of herself and could be a danger to herself or others.

After being taken to the county jail, White was able to have another bond company take over her bonds and she was released from the county jail. On Thursday March 28, a Minnehaha County judge issued a $30,000 bond bench warrant on White.

White was located in rural Sibley, IA and taken into the Osceola County on Thursday, March 28. White was extradited back to Sioux Falls on Friday, March 29.

White is expected to be in court Tuesday.
