PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A hearing to determine whether a murder trial for a 16-year-old Pierre boy should be moved from adult court to juvenile court has been delayed.
The transfer hearing for Braiden McCahren has been rescheduled from April 10-12 to May 1-2.
McCahren is charged with first-degree murder in the December shooting death of 16-year-old Dalton Williams. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to life in prison. He has pleaded not guilty.
One of the reasons for the delay is because Hughes County State's Attorney Max Gors resigned recently because of health reasons. He had been prosecuting the case.
Last week Gores filed court documents appointing Beadle County State's Attorney Michael Moore as a limited deputy state's attorney in charge of prosecuting the case.
