Man in custody after brief standoff in Watertown

Posted: Updated:

A Watertown man is in custody Tuesday night after a brief standoff during which he discharged a shotgun in a residential area.

Sgt. Troy VanDusen tells KSFY it happened at 902 4th Street NE just before 7:30 p.m.  Police received a call that 21-year-old Mackenzie Enter was threatening to harm himself.  They arrived to find Enter standing in the backyard with a gun. While talking to officers, he fired a shotgun round into the air.

A police crisis negotiator responded to the scene. Negotiations took place and at 8:09, Enter was taken into custody.  No one was injured during the incident.

Enter was taken to the Codington County Jail where he is being charged with Reckless Discharge of a Firearm and Possession of a Loaded Firearm while Intoxicated.

The Watertown Police Department was assisted by the Codington County Sheriff's Office.
