Raffle for set of South Dakota inaugural pins

Posted: Updated:

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A collection of gubernatorial inaugural ball buttons representing nearly eight decades of South Dakota politics will soon change hands.

The collection is being raffled off by the Hughes and Stanley County Republicans as a fundraiser.

The 49-button set was donated by former state Sen. Homer Harding, who spent years amassing the collection.

It contains every inaugural button from Gov. Tom Berry in 1935 through Gov. Dennis Daugaard in 2011. It also includes buttons for various campaigns such as Pierre's state capitol fight with Mitchell and Warren G. Harding's 1920 presidential run.

The group is selling 200 tickets at $10 each and hopes to sell all by its April 11 meeting. If not, the collection will be raffled off at the following meeting in May.
