O'Gorman High School will be hosting hundreds of students this weekend for the first "Just Sing It," choir competition. The event will be held at O'Gorman High School on Saturday April 6th in their new performing arts theater. The competition will start at 9:00am and will end with an awards ceremony at 4:00pm. "Just Sing It," is a performance based competition program designed to encourage the performance growth and experience for students at all levels of high school mixed choirs across the area. The public is welcome. You can get an all-day pass for $5. There will be 520 high school students competing from several different schools. Schools and judges will be traveling from Southwest Minnesota, Northeast Iowa, Northern Nebraska, and across South Dakota.
The students will perform for a panel of judges from across the Midwest. One of those judges will also hold a 40 minute private workshop with each participating group after their performance. There will be three classifications for schools based on school size. Class AA - 1,000 and above; Class A - 150 to 999; Class B - 149 and below.
All choirs will be ranked and presented with plaques in their classification according to their performance. There are levels of achievement - Gold, Silver, and Bronze depending on the scoring. Choirs who reach a gold level of achievement will be eligible for 1st or 2nd place trophies in each class. Schools are able to choose to compete for a trophy or for comments only. All competing choirs will perform three choral selections.
