Proposed Walmart area residents ask for more time and get it

Posted: Updated:

Sioux Falls, South Dakota: The public hearing on the rezoning of the southwest corner of 85th Street and Minnesota Avenue has been rescheduled from May 7 to the May 21 City Council meeting.

"We need to do this right versus fast," says Mayor Mike Huether. "The team, including the City Council, is listening, learning and working incredibly hard to find common ground. We are following through with what we said we would do."

The City is providing additional time to continue discussions with neighbors of the proposed development. This also allows additional time to complete the traffic study of the area.

The recently annexed land at 85th Street and Minnesota Avenue is zoned agricultural today but is being considered for rezoning to office and commercial lots, including a proposed Super Walmart. Once again, the first reading of the rezoning will take place on May 7, and the second reading and public hearing is now scheduled for May 21.
