Major construction projects are starting all around Sioux Falls. Here are details on five projects beginning Monday, April 8th.
I-90 & Cliff Avenue Interchange:
Restrictions in eastbound lanes of I-90 will allow workers to install guardrail and make temporary concrete repairs.
Cliff Avenue interchange ramp traffic will be maintained, but the width of the ramps will be narrower during the construction.
Motorists can expect merging and suddenly slowing traffic and should be aware of construction equipment and workers.
This work should be done November 8.
10th Street & Lowell Ave:
The outside eastbound lane on Tenth Street at Lowell Avenue will be closed. Eastbound traffic will use the inside eastbound lane.
Koerner Construction will be repairing an approach. The work is anticipated to be finished by the evening of April 15, 2013.
Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling in this area.
49th Street at I-29:
Repair work will begin on the 49th Street structure over Interstate 29.
Work on the structure will include concrete repair and joint replacement.
A single lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction through the work area.
The prime contractor is Heavy Constructors of Rapid City, and the completion date is May 3.
I-229 Interchange Ramps:
Concrete pavement repair work will begin in Sioux Falls on the Interstate 229 and Louise Avenue, Western Avenue and Rice Street interchange ramps.
Interstate ramp traffic will be maintained, but the width of the ramps will be narrower in those work areas.
Drivers can expect merging and suddenly slowing traffic and should be aware of construction equipment and workers.
The prime contractor for the $700,000 project is Dakota Contracting Corp. of Sioux Falls, and the completion date is June 1.
Downtown Lane Closures:
Concrete repairs will begin on Tenth Street and 11th Street from Minnesota Avenue to Second Avenue.
The first phase of work will begin on Tenth Street at Second Avenue and proceed to Minnesota Avenue. Lanes will be closed for the repairs, but traffic will be maintained in two lanes.
Traffic delays are to be expected. Motorists are urged to use caution in the construction areas and may wish to consider alternate routes.
Phase 2 of the project, concrete repairs on 11th Street from Minnesota Avenue to Second Avenue, is expected to start in two weeks.
BX Civil & Construction of Dell Rapids is the prime contractor.
