4 escape early morning house fire in Aberdeen

Posted: Updated:

ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - Officials in Aberdeen say four people escaped an early morning fire that destroyed a three-story house in the city.

Aberdeen Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Randy Meister tells the Aberdeen American News reports that heavy flames were visible from three different sides of the house when firefighters arrived about 1:45 a.m.

Meister says four people who had been trapped on the roof managed to get down safely by jumping off a nearby roof landing on the second story of the building.

One man who escaped drove himself to a local hospital to be checked out, but there were no other injuries.

The fire's cause is under investigation.
