O'Gorman H.S. hosts first annual 'Just Sing It' Competition

Posted: Updated:

A big event at one Sioux Falls high school drew big crowds, big voices and big competition. It's called Just Sing It at O'Gorman High School and around 540 students did exactly that.

The event took place inside O'Gorman's state of the art performing arts center featuring great acoustics and a whole lot of room.

It's a stand-and-sing competition to encourage growth and experience for high school mixed choirs across the area from Sioux Falls to Tea, Hartford and Colton.

The day long event included students performing for a panel of distinguished judges, a private workshop and the chance to win a trophy.

"We work really hard, we love what we do, we come out here to show everyone what we can do and it's awesome for us to get to do that," Tea Area High School's Natalie LeVan said.

"This is an fantastic venue and opportunity to show the hard work that these students put in all year long. We have a lot of our singers who do athletics, it's an opportunity to show both of their strengths," Robyn Holcomb said.

The event wrapped up with an awards ceremony around 4 p.m., Saturday.

This was the first year for the event.
