For decades, one well-known Pastor has been of service to others through his work with the Volunteers of America and the South Dakota State Penitentiary.
Saturday, the tables were turned, as hundreds came out to show their support for him.
Pastor Al Peratt is battling a form of fast-moving cancer in the head and neck region. He recently finished chemo and radiation treatments but his body wasn't keeping up. He experienced going in and out of a coma.
The soup luncheon and auction benefit brought together hundreds of people - friends, family and strangers - in an effort to help Pastor Al and his family with the financial hurdles they're facing.
"All these people came out. It isn't because it's me but because of who we are as Sioux Falls as we support each other," Pastor Al Peratt said.
The event was made possible by the American Legion Riders and several of Al's friends.
