New member of SD regents is learning the job

Posted: Updated:

The newest member of the South Dakota Board of Regents says he is working to learn about the issues involved in higher education.

Gov. Dennis Daugaard recently appointed Bob Sutton of Pierre to the board that governs the state's public university system. Sutton's first official day as a regent was Friday.

Gov. Dennis Daugaard says he is already getting help from fellow members of the Board of Regents and the regents staff.

Sutton is vice president for community relations with Avera Health. He says higher education involves more than just education. He says a strong education system helps the state in other ways, such as economic development.
