A major winter storm system continues to develop and move across the five-state region Tuesday morning. Heavy snow is already falling across central South Dakota where 15 to 20 inches of snow will fall by Thursday morning. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for most of South Dakota through Wednesday night. Strong north wind gusts from 35 to 45 mph will create blowing snow, reducing visibility to near zero at times.

In Sioux Falls, rain, sleet and snow are likely Tuesday and Tuesday night. This wintry mix will change to all snow Tuesday night and continue through Wednesday, Wednesday night and much of Thursday. Total snow accumulation of 4 to 7 inches or more is possible in the Sioux Falls area. A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect for Sioux Falls through Wednesday night. For the latest details on the storm, visit our KSFY.com Weather section.
