Snowstorm leave many travelers stranded in Pierre

Posted: Updated:

After a one-two punch from old man winter, it's business as usual in Pierre but during the storm, getting to work or out of town was practically impossible.

When Patsy Glantzberg planned a trip to Big Sky with her granddaughters, she had no idea they would end up in Pierre...thanks to a surprise spring snowstorm.

"The ice got too bad on the road because my windshield wipers were icing over. I felt myself slipping on the overpass so I just took the next highway off and it brought me up to Pierre," Glantzberg said."

Joyce Patton, Executive Housekeeper at the Ft. Pierre Holiday Inn Express, had trouble getting to work. But she made it.

So now she had to help make up rooms for those who couldn't.

"A lot of people have been out sick, anyway, so it's been double duty for a lot of us. So we just weather the storm and do it with a smile," Patton said.

And during the storm, many were depending on people like Joyce to be at work. The Holiday Inn Express suddenly became a home away from home for many weary stranded travelers.

"Lot's of people don't expect us to do a lot of work. They'll say we just need towels, give us toiletries, and towels and we'll be fine. The people have just been great," Patton said.

Even though Patsy would like to pack her bags and go, she's in no hurry to get home.

"The kids are home schooled. They're my grandchildren. I don't have anything to rush home to except Uncle Sam, to do my taxes," Glantzberg said."

Now that storm has passed, many of us are happy to be hitting the road once again.
