Silver City woman sees playhouse dreams become nightmares

Posted: Updated:

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - The Pennington County commissioners have decided to waive fines for a 74-year-old Silver City woman who faced a civil complaint over a playhouse she had built for her granddaughters.

The Rapid City Journal reports that Beverly Sears had a contractor build a 12-by-12 foot log cabin next to her property for her granddaughters. But Sears and her contractor never obtained a permit for the structure.

Sears was charged with a civil complaint by Pennington County, faced $800 in fines and after she missed an earlier court appearance, faced a warrant for her arrest.

On Tuesday, the Pennington County commissioners voted to waive Sears' fines as long as she buys a permit for the playhouse.

The court case remains open.
