Alcester, S.D. – One person died in a two vehicle crash three miles North of Alcester on Friday, April 19.
A 1995 Ford E250 van was traveling northbound on SD Highway 11. The van stopped at the stop sign of the junction of SD Highway 11 and SD Highway 46, and then pulled out into the path of a 2007 Peterbilt semi-truck.
The driver of the van, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck was transported to the Canton Hospital with minor injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
Names are not being released until relatives have been notified. No further information is immediately available.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Union County Sheriff's Office, Alcester Fire and Rescue and Alcester Police Department assisted.
