For most of us, senior prom was, or will be, a once-in-a-lifetime night.
But, if a medical emergency should fall in the way, it could turn a life upside down, throwing out any chance of going to the prom.
For Aberdeen Central High School Senior Patrick Dawn, 17, that was exactly the case.
Emergency surgery brought him to Sanford Hospital, Aberdeen, earlier this week with no promise he'd be out by Saturday night, Aberdeen's prom.
But, family and medical staff improvised, to make prom possible for Patrick.
Dozens of his friends - and even some teachers - gathered at the hospital to share in the joy of the big event, which included decorations, refreshments and even a professional photographer.
Though exhausted by the end of the night, his dad said Patrick's eye had a sparkle, proving this was a night to remember.
