FBI shares shooting response tips with Minn. cops

Posted: Updated:

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The FBI is talking with state and local law officers about lessons it has learned in active shooting situations around the country - with the goal of helping first responders be ready for anything.

Minneapolis FBI spokesman Kyle Loven says local and state authorities are often the first to respond to a report of an "active shooter" situation. So the FBI is using its prior experience to create a blueprint of best practices.

The FBI's active shooter training will be held Thursday and Friday. Loven says presenters will look at past incidents and discuss what worked well and what could be improved upon.

The training is part of a White House initiative. Future sessions will be held for more officers in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.
